Every sign is thirty degrees wide, and a placement's exact degree changes how the sign reads. A planet at 29° Pisces is not simply "in Pisces" — it sits in a particular decan, inside a particular bound, at a late point of the sign. Late degrees carry the whole sign behind them. They are the most experienced version of the sign, and the most aware that the next one is coming.

The decan: Mars's ten degrees

Degrees 20 to 29 of Pisces form the 3rd decan. In the Chaldean order this decan is ruled by Mars, which adds drive, heat and the willingness to fight for it to everything Pisces already does.

By the triplicity system the same ten degrees belong to Scorpio, the other water sign whose flavour bleeds in here. Read together: Pisces's i believe, delivered with Mars's drive.

The bound: Saturn's degrees

The Egyptian bounds divide each sign into five unequal stretches, each governed by one of the classical planets. 29° falls in Saturn's bound. In traditional practice the bound ruler is a quieter but real influence — it describes the working conditions a planet meets at this exact degree, and it is one of the reasons two planets in the same sign can behave so differently.

Degree theory: the Virgo degree

Modern degree theory runs the twelve signs through the thirty degrees, so every degree carries a second sign's flavour. 29° is a Virgo degree — mutable earth: the sign of refinement. In Pisces, that reads as Pisces's i believe coloured by Virgo's i analyse: two different instincts sharing one degree — fluidly, imaginatively, by feel rather than argument, but with Virgo's instinct underneath.

Degree theory is a modern layer rather than a traditional one, and astrologers differ on how much weight to give it. It is most convincing when a chart has several planets on the same degree number.

The anaretic degree

Twenty-nine degrees is the last degree of a sign, and traditionally the most restless one. A planet here has finished the sign's business and is already leaning into Aries. Astrologers read it as urgency: a sense of running out of time in this department, decisions made at the last moment, and a lifetime of the sign's lesson compressed into one degree. It is also the most experienced degree — nothing about Pisces is new to it.

A planet at 29° Pisces

What this degree does depends entirely on which body is sitting on it. The Sun at 29° Pisces is an identity; the Moon at 29° Pisces is a need; Mars there is a way of fighting. Start with the body, then add the degree:
