The Sun is the centre of the chart — not your personality exactly, but the direction your life organises itself around. It is what you are growing toward rather than what you already are.

In Sagittarius, the Sun operates expansively, honestly, with an eye on the horizon. Mutable fire: meaning in motion. Sagittarius wants the bigger picture — travel, study, belief, the principle behind the fact — and it wants room to go looking for it.

How this Sun shows up

The gifts of Sagittarius, read through the Sun:

• Optimism that survives evidence
• Tells the truth even when it costs
• Makes meaning out of experience
• Genuinely open to other worlds and ideas

The mechanics of the placement

Sun has no formal dignity in Sagittarius — it is a neutral guest, taking its colour from the sign and from whatever aspects it makes.

Sagittarius is mutable fire, ruled by Jupiter. Fire is outgoing and self-starting: it acts to find out what it thinks. Mutable signs adapt. They handle change well and settled routine badly. Put that under the Sun's department — identity, vitality, and the thing you are here to become — and the result is forward and expressive.

Because Jupiter rules Sagittarius, Jupiter is the planet to look at next in your own chart. Wherever Jupiter sits by sign and house is where this Sun in Sagittarius placement actually spends its energy.

What it is here to develop

Who am I when nobody is managing me? With the Sun here, the answer runs through i see — Sagittarius wants the bigger picture — travel, study, belief, the principle behind the fact — and it wants room to go looking for it.

At its best this placement is generous, adventurous, philosophically alive. In love it needs freedom and a companion for the road, in that order; at work it thrives in teaching, travel, publishing, anything with scope.

When it goes wrong

Under strain, Sagittarius turns tactless, over-committed, allergic to constraint — and the Sun is the department where you will notice it first, because that is where identity, vitality, and the thing you are here to become lives. The usual signs:

• Promises more than the calendar allows
• Bluntness sold as honesty
• Restless the moment a thing becomes routine
• Prefers the theory to the detail

Working with it

Nothing in a chart is a verdict. Sun in Sagittarius describes a tendency with a grain to it — going with the grain is easy and going against it is expensive but sometimes necessary. The practical question is not how to fix the placement but where to spend it: thrives in teaching, travel, publishing, anything with scope.
