The lunar nodes are not planets. They are the two points where the Moon's orbit crosses the ecliptic — the reason eclipses happen at all. In astrology they are read as an axis: the south node is what comes easily and the north node is what you are growing toward. They are always exactly opposite each other, so this pair always travels together.
The south node in Aries: what you already have
The first sign, and it behaves like one. Aries is the impulse before the plan — initiative, appetite, the willingness to go first and find out. Cardinal fire starts things; it is much less interested in tending them.
With the south node here, this is the mode you default to without effort. It is genuinely yours — starts things other people only discuss, courage that arrives before the fear does. The catch is that comfort is not the same as growth. The south node is where you retreat when you are tired, and where you can hide for years while telling yourself you are working.
The overuse looks like this: boredom once the beginning is over; heat that spends itself before the finish; reads patience as defeat.
The north node in Libra: what you are here to build
Cardinal air: relationship as an initiative. Libra thinks through other people — weighing, comparing, adjusting until the thing is fair and, if possible, beautiful.
The north node feels unnatural at first. Moving toward Libra means acting diplomatically, aesthetically, with an eye on the other person — which, coming from a Aries south node, will feel like the wrong instinct almost every time. That is the nature of the axis: the growth direction is never the comfortable one.
What it asks for in practice:
- Sees every side of a question, genuinely
- Makes situations and spaces more graceful
- Skilled at negotiation and repair
- Excellent company by design and by nature
How the axis plays out
The nodes fall in a pair of opposite houses as well as opposite signs, and the houses are where you actually feel it. A Libra/Aries, third/ninth axis is a different life from the same signs across the fourth and tenth. Find yours in the birth chart report, then read the two houses involved.
Practically: when a decision offers you the familiar Aries route and an uncomfortable Libra one, and both are reasonable, the north node is the argument for the second.
Eclipses on this axis
Eclipses fall near the nodes, which is why eclipse seasons tend to move exactly the areas of life your nodes occupy. When eclipses land in Libra and Aries, this axis becomes the live question again — usually by forcing the issue rather than asking politely.
