The second house is what belongs to you — earnings, possessions, and the more private matter of what you believe you are worth. The two are usually connected.
Houses are not signs. The signs describe how something happens; the houses describe where in a life it happens. The second house is the what you own and value — and every chart has one, whether or not a planet is sitting in it.
Angular, succedent or cadent
Succedent houses (2, 5, 8, 11) hold and consolidate what the angles begin. The second house is succedent.
A planet in the second house
A planet here shapes how you earn, spend and value — and how secure you need to feel.
An empty second house
An empty second house does not mean poverty. Read the sign on the cusp and where its ruler sits. Most charts have several empty houses — there are only ten or so bodies for twelve rooms, so emptiness is the norm and means nothing bad.
Why the natural sign matters
Each house has a sign that belongs to it by nature — here, Taurus, ruled by Venus. That association is where the house's reputation comes from: Fixed earth: the sign of holding. But the sign on your second cusp is set by your birth time, and it is the one that describes how this part of your life actually behaves.
